Carbonation is back
Mark this day down folks, 05/05/08, the website is finally up and running once more. I firstly must send blessings and greetings to all the supporters who kept me going through the year, DJ-RJ, his family, DJ Fizz and the entire Austin gang, the Houston family, Justin and the NY Bad Boy Clip, RJ Scratch and the Londoners. My goal was to be back up and running as of January 2008 but we are here today, another case of better late than never. What's in store? Well hopefully lots - a weekly podcast, tons of photos, video clips - the whole nine yards. Yup. Carbonation is back. To those who are asking for the return of the streaming radio show it will unfortunately not be back just yet as the infrastructure needs to be put back in place. Carnival is officially over and the results are as follows:
Here are MY Top 15 Soca Tunes for Carnival 2k - the tunes that I like and like to play.
15. Work Him Out - Ms Alysha
Do the ladies ever get to represent? Well Ms. Alysha takes the girls to task with this one. Its real simple as she says to "work him out" and by the way,"...this is not for the bourgie (bourgeoise) girls in the heels acting cute, this one for the rough girls in the Tims and Nike boots...". Always lyrically powerful, Ms. Alysha never fails.
14. On D Floor - Mr. Vegas feat. Destra
I really can't say if this is reggaeton or not but I like it. Its a wicked jam that will see airplay outside of the carnival season which is difficult to say of most songs. I am not really a big Destra fan so this song had to be really good for me to like it. Really.
13. Admire You - Mr. Slaughter
I am starting to think that I am a fan of Mr. Slaughter, but it seems that this Soundman/MC turned soca artist and writer really has taken the time to understand the genre, the audience and the DJ. His productions are always top notch and this is no different.
12. Bumper - Pelf
Its good to see Pelf coming into his own. Google him... He's from the states (yup the good ole' USA) and powered by soca he has ensured that he is now a staple of the Trini carnival scene. Bumper is another example that Pelf is here for some time.
11. Bad and Famous - Bunji Garlin
Let Go Me Riddim! This has proven to be one of the better riddims for some time and this track sets the pace for carnival 2k8 with Bunji going back to a more lyric driven center. Bunji goes back to Bunji of old making this riddim a blessing to juggle.
10. Pumpin' (remix) - Peter Ram feat. Aidonia
Note. This is possibly the best combination that I have heard from the soca and dancehall worlds. Who new that Aidonia would bring it, forget bringing it like this. This is a hypnotic walk down the Nirvana riddim that allows you to enjoy a fantastic beat with just enough instruction to know how to move when.
9. Never Give Up - 3 Canal
Let it not be said that my tastes are eclectic. The Rapso super-group does it again. 3 Canal will always give us beats to sway to while feeding our minds, bodies and souls. "Never Give Up" is a reminder for the ages for us all to just never give up.
8. Over Yuh Head - The Boss a.k.a. Iwer
This is a Spice Girls sitution. This is where I really need to ask myself publicly - how the hell does this make it at num
